Diabetes and Gum Disease

If you have diabetes and frequently suffer from gingivitis, high blood sugar could be the reason. At the Rancho Cucamonga dental office of Dr. Jia Y. Lee, we see a lot of people who have trouble fighting gum disease, and we want to help them figure out what the problem is. New research has found that oral health and diabetes are closely linked and that the two influence each other. We know that people with diabetes have higher rates of inflammation, higher rates of gum disease, and higher rates of infection overall. We don’t understand the exact relationship between those things, but we know that inflammation is how the body isolates disease-causing bacteria in the gum pockets. Although it is an important part of the immune system, inflammation is painful and the weakening it causes to cellular membranes can become a problem if it is prolonged. When people have uncontrolled blood sugar, their arteries harden, making it harder for nutrients to be distributed throughout their bodies. The

Immediate Dentures

Dentures are a replacement for missing teeth that can be removed and put back into the mouth as pleased. They are prosthetic devices that are supported by the surrounding soft and hard tissues inside the oral cavity. Depending on the individual patient case, he or she may receive full, partial, or immediate dentures from Dr. Jia Y. Lee, DDS. If a patient is faced with the loss of single or multiple teeth and will be replacing those teeth with removable or partial dentures, immediate placement may be an option. An immediate denture is a complete denture or partial denture inserted on the same day, immediately following the removal of natural teeth. As the healing process continues, the gums which support the denture will shrink. Changes can continue for several months. During this time, it is important to follow up with Dr. Jia Y. Lee, DDS, for adjustments. If you have questions or concerns regarding dentures, please give us a call. To learn more about the services provided at the pract

Veneers

Are your teeth severely discolored, chipped, or misshapen? If so, Dr. Jia Y. Lee, DDS has a cosmetic service to boost your self-esteem and enhance the appearance of your smile. Veneers are a less intrusive ulterior to dental crowns and orthodontic braces. They use a thin piece of porcelain used to re-create the look of natural teeth. Veneers are a permanent treatment method, so before they are placed, it’s best to be comfortable with your decision. Veneers are attached to the front surfaces of teeth and have the ability to camouflage imperfections from gapped teeth and crooked teeth. Worn down teeth can make it difficult to chew and speak, and these problems can be corrected with dental veneers. Veneers are an irreversible procedure, because Dr. Jia Y. Lee, DDS needs to change the structure of your natural teeth to properly place them. If you have questions or concerns regarding veneers, please give us a call. Drinking Water for Oral Health

Drinking water is important for your health at all ages.  Dr. Jia Y. Lee has seen adult patients that are guilty of not drinking enough water, so we know it can be tough to monitor if kids are getting enough too.  We want to encourage you and the kids in your family to stay hydrated and healthy! We all know kids love drinking juice and soda, but we forget that these beverages leave unwanted sugar behind on the teeth.  The type of bacteria that causes cavities feeds on sugar, and produces acid that wears away enamel. Enamel is not replaceable, so it’s important to take care of it even from a young age.  When kids drink juice or soda, it is helpful just to drink some water afterwards to dilute acids and wash away food particles and residue. You and your children should be drinking at least eight 8oz glasses of water each day.  Drinking tap water with fluoride is important to help prevent cavities.  If you’re worried that your children may not be drinking enough water, come see us to disc
