Replace Teeth With Implants

Dr. Jia Y. Lee can replace teeth and restore patient smiles with dental implants. Implants are a permanent restorative option for teeth that are missing or have been extracted.  They look and feel like natural teeth, and are the most permanent and efficient means of replacing lost teeth.  An implant is placed over a series of appointments because of the healing time required.  Implants are titanium screws inserted through an incision in the gum. Over a period of 3-6 months, the jaw bone heals around the implant to become a solid, stable base for the new tooth. During this time a patient is fitted with a temporary crown, and a custom crown is created to match their smile perfectly. After the jaw bone and gums have healed appropriately, the custom crown is placed in a second minor procedure.  The doctor may need to expose the head of the implant by removing some gum tissue, and the crown will be screwed to the top of the implant.  When this is complete the tooth looks like part of the na

Sweets and Your Teeth

Halloween is right around the corner and if you haven’t had your dental appointment yet, Dr. Jia Y. Lee, DDS sure hopes you have one scheduled right after. If you are a candy lover, you may or may not have had at least one cavity in your lifetime. It’s one thing to learn from your mistakes, but if you haven’t and you are cavity-prone, it may be a good idea to take it easy on the candy this holiday season. Chocolate is one of the most popular Halloween treats to be passed around and it’s one of the better candies to enjoy. Simply because chocolate washes off the teeth easier than hard and sticky candies which will linger and attack tooth enamel. Sticky and gummy candies are some of the worst for your teeth because they give the cavity-causing bacteria more time to attack your teeth and gums. If you’re going to indulge this year, be sure to brush and floss when you’re done! If you have questions or concerns regarding dental health or oral hygiene, please give us a call. To learn more abo

Smoking and Oral Health

Bad breath, tooth discoloration, and increase build-up of plaque and tartar on the teeth are only a few of the yucky characteristics that arise while smoking. At the dental practice of Dr. Jia Y. Lee, we know you aware that smoking is bad for your overall health, so it should be no surprise that cigarettes and chewing tobacco are harmful to your oral health as well. There is no nutritional benefit from smoke permeating around your teeth and gums. Instead, the smoke will cause gums to recede, which will lead to tooth sensitivity and possible tooth loss over time. A smoker is less likely to have an adequate oral hygiene routine as compared to a non-smoker. By quitting tobacco and cigarettes and improving your oral care routine, your teeth, gums, and breath will thank you. Your mouth will feel fresher and you’ll be able to breathe easier. Peri-implantitis

Rancho Cucamonga’s Dr. Jia Y. Lee is an experienced provider of dental implants. These prosthetics have allowed thousands of patients to recover their oral health and preserve their facial structure. But implants need to be cared for, and to prevent our patients from needing replacements, we want to educate them about peri-implantitis. Peri-implantitis refers to inflammation surrounding a dental implant. It could be caused by excessive dental cement, but it is usually bacteria-induced gingivitis that happens to occur near an implant post. When bacteria consume food debris, they excrete acid, which irritates the gums. Decay can easily go unnoticed below the gum line, making the gum pockets an ideal place for bacteria to hide and for tartar to build up. Inflamed gums will turn red and bleed, and if the infection is allowed to progress for too long, the gums, jaw bone, and implant may be eroded. An implant has to be replaced if more than twenty percent of the jaw bone is lost within the f

Sjögren’s Syndrome

Patients should never be embarrassed to seek help at the Rancho Cucamonga dental office of Dr. Jia Lee. We recognize that our patients struggle with many oral health challenges, including Sjögren’s Syndrome. People with this condition are at higher risk for gingivitis and tooth decay, so we want them to know what to expect. Autoimmune disorders often cause inflammation, including gingivitis. Sjögren’s Syndrome is distinct in that it causes dryness of the tear and saliva glands, although it often occurs along with other autoimmune disorders, such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. When people lack saliva, it is easier for food debris to build up in their mouths and fuel bacterial infections. The pH level of their mouths also changes, allowing bacteria and fungus to grow there more easily. It is unknown what causes Sjögren’s Syndrome, although middle-aged women are the most at risk for it. Testing for Sjögren’s Syndrome requires a biopsy of the patient’s saliva glands to be taken, which
