How to Brush Your Teeth the Right Way

This may sound a little extreme, but it’s the truth, if we didn’t practice proper oral hygiene habits, our teeth will eventually fall out. If you want to keep your permanent teeth for a lifetime, you have to brush at least twice a day for two minutes to eliminate food particles that can cause bad breath and periodontal disease. Dr. Jia Y. Lee, DDS wants patients to know that there is a proper way to brush the teeth, and he would like to share it with you.

  • Place your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle against the gums.

  • Move the brush back and forth gently in short (tooth-wide) strokes.

  • Brush the outer tooth surfaces, the inner tooth surfaces, and the chewing surfaces of the teeth.

  • Use the tip of the brush to clean the inside surfaces of the front teeth, using a gentle up-and-down stroke.

  • Brush your tongue to remove bacteria and don’t forget to floss!
